PICK YOUR FIGHTER

Choose your role. We'll highlight your data throughout.

PM 7,446 open roles
ENGINEER 67,830 open roles
DESIGNER 5,874 open roles
AI / ML 36,436 open roles
01

PM openings are at the highest levels in over 3 years

There are over 7,300 open PM roles at tech companies globally, and trending up. This is 75% above the low we saw in early 2023.

02

AI hasn't slowed the demand for software engineers

There are over 67,000 engineering openings at tech companies globally right now, with 26,000 just in the U.S. Since the start of this year, the increase in open eng roles is accelerating even more.

Recruiter demand confirms the trend

Recruiter hiring is a leading indicator — it expands with hiring demand. The fact that recruiter openings are nearly back to 2022 peaks suggests sustained growth ahead.

03

AI roles are absolutely exploding

AI roles include all open roles at AI-driven companies like OpenAI and Anthropic, plus AI-specific roles at non-AI companies. Whether it's the number of AI companies exploding or headcount at top AI companies growing — it's a good time to be good at AI.

AI PMs and AI Engineers are both surging

04

Design roles have plateaued

Unlike PM and engineering, open design jobs have been relatively flat since early 2023. The ratio of PM to designer demand has flipped — there are now 1.27x more open PM roles than design roles.

05

The Bay Area continues increasing in importance

Over 20% of all eng and designer roles are now in the Bay Area, and over 23% of open PM roles. A whopping third of open AI roles are based in the Bay Area.

06

Remote work opportunities continue to decline

At its peak in 2022, about 35% of listed PM roles were remote-friendly. Today, only 25%. While remote-optional appears permanent, many opportunities still come with country or time-zone restrictions.

07

Despite layoffs, tech headcount is flat or growing

So far in 2026, there have been 166 layoffs at tech companies, with 55,775 people impacted. In 2025, there were 783 layoffs with 245,953 impacted. Yet the headcount at most big tech companies is flat or up. We may be seeing a headcount shuffle, not slash.

The bottom line

The open-role and layoff data for this year are actually telling a growth story for tech. Yes, there have been layoffs, and there likely will continue to be. But hiring is taking off, and it's outpacing the layoffs. We may really be seeing a headcount shuffle, not slash. There's good reason to be optimistic.
